WHEN my younger brothers were growing up, baby wet wipes weren’t readily available and so cleaning up after them was a messy affair. We moved among tissue, wash cloths and muslin cloth. I remember water in a small pail used whenever they needed cleaning.

Fast forward three decades and I was cleaning up my son when my best friend asked: “How did mothers survive without wet wipes?”

My mum would say cloth and water did the trick but I say wet wipes make things so much simpler.

It’s like having wet towels available any time of the day without having to fill up a pail with water and find a clean wash cloth.

My wet wipes are placed next to Murshid’s mattress in the living room and I use them for many things — to clean him before changing his diapers, to wipe his hands when he dips them in my food and to clean off spilt milk on the floor.

AFFORDABLE CHOICE

Most people look for affordable options when buying baby wipes because they need to use a lot. The new Tollyjoy wipes are RM13.90 for 100 pieces when some brands have only 80 so that’s value in itself.

Made with ultra-soft spun lace and 99 per cent purified water that has undergone a process of ultra-filtration, reverse osmosis and UV sanitisation, the Tollyjoy baby wet wipes are mild and gentle on baby’s delicate skin.

The wet wipes are also infused with Vitamin E to offer a soothing experience.

I don’t know if my son’s skin is sensitive but he has not had any nappy rash resulting from a wet wipes’ formulation.

But to make sure his skin is dry, I wipe his bottom with a clean muslin cloth after using the wet a wipes, before putting on a fresh diaper.

Keeping the area dry helps prevent nappy rash or any other reaction resulting from moisture trapped in the diaper.

The wet wipes come either scented or unscented, whichever you prefer. I like the scented one because it has a comforting, baby powder fragrance. It does the trick if you need to cover up any bad odour.

Many mothers shy away from anything scented for their babies but I think if my baby’s skin can tolerate it, it’s fine. But for babies with super sensitive skin, the best choice would be the unscented option.

The wet wipes come with aloe vera extract to keep baby’s skin soft and moisturised at all times.

Tollyjoy’s wet wipes have also been dermatologically tested and are safe to use on baby’s hand and face. The wet wipes are alcohol-free and do not contain phthalates, parabens or lanolin.

Like most baby wipes, the packaging comes with a clasp seal so the wipes remain moist. I like that the sheets are thick and durable but soft. It cleans effectively so you use less which makes it easier on the pocket.
