NEW MAVCOM EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN TO GET LOWER SALARY THAN PREDECESSOR
Loke says he has proposed a candidate for the post to PM
THE new Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) executive chairman, who has yet to be appointed, will likely get a lower salary than his predecessor.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said he had submitted a proposal for a new executive chairman to replace outgoing General (Rtd) Tan Sri Abdullah Ahmad.
“As far as Mavcom is concerned, I’ve recommended a candidate to the prime minister.
It’s the prerogative of the prime minister to make the appointment. I hope the appointment will be made soon to ensure continuity in Mavcom,” he said, adding that the salary for the post would be reviewed.
It was reported that Abdullah had been earning RM85,000 a month as Mavcom executive chairman, four times what Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad earned as prime minister.
Loke revealed this last month, with Dr Mahathir instructing that a salary review be carried out.
In 2016, Abdullah earned just over RM75,000 a month. This was increased by three per cent, and a further five per cent earlier this year.
Asked about the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail project, Loke declined to comment.
He said the matter was being handled by Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
