KTMB to get nine new Electric Train Service units
KUALA LUMPUR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) will be getting nine new of Electric Train Service (ETS) units by September.
KTMB chief executive officer Rani Hisham Samsudin said the new units would have businessclass coaches.
“We’ll be able to offer more facilities to commuters with the business-class seats.
“We are looking into providing services such as WiFi, video-ondemand and other features that will be decided later,” he said, adding that each business-class coach would accommodate up to 32 people per trip.
He said the new units were expected to start operation by October.
“The commissioning and testing of the trains would be conducted before they can start operation,” he said yesterday.
He said the business coaches would be offered for all ETS routes, namely Gemas-Padang Besar, Kuala Lumpur-Butterworth and Kuala Lumpur-Ipoh.
“Once the new trains are ready, we will consider increasing the trip frequency depending on the service’s speed and demand,” he said, adding that there were 36 daily trips for each route.
