Philippines looks forward to building strong partnership with Malaysia

-

PUTRAJAYA: Philippine Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano called on Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah yesterday, and said he looked forward to working closely with Malaysia to build a stronger partnership between the two countries in bilateral, regional and multilateral forums.

Cayetano conveyed the message to Saifuddin at their 40minute meeting at the latter’s office here in the course of his inaugural four-day working visit to Malaysia beginning yesterday.

Wisma Putra said Saifuddin and Cayetano discussed bilateral issues and exchanged views on regional and global matters.

They noted the excellent state of bilateral relations between Malaysia and the Philippines, and believed that these relations could be further strengthened.

“Both leaders agreed to continue bolstering greater cooperation in various areas,” said Wisma Putra.

It is learnt that Cayetano’s visit was also to inform Saifuddin on the private visit by President Rodrigo Duterte to Malaysia this weekend to watch the title fight between boxing icon and senator Manny Pacquiao and Lucas “The Machine” Matthysse.

Pacquiao, who is also known as The Pacman, is scheduled to face World Boxing Association welterweight champion Matthysse of Argentina in a much-anticipated battle, which is regarded as the “Fight of the Champions”, at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil tomorrow.
