Najib’s ex-aide remanded for two more days

PUTRAJAYA: The remand order against Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s former special officer has been extended for another two days until tomorrow.

The 44-year-old, who carries the title “Datuk”, was detained on Monday to assist in a probe over alleged false claims relating to a solar panel project for schools in Sarawak.

The extended remand order was issued by magistrate Shah Wira Abdul Halim.

The former aide was earlier remanded for four days beginning Tuesday.

The Datuk arrived at the magistrate’s court here at 10.50am yesterday, flanked by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers.

MACC Investigat­ion Department director Datuk Simi Abdul Ghani, who confirmed the arrest of the Datuk, said the latter was detained after being called to MACC’s headquarte­rs to have his statement recorded on the alleged embezzleme­nt of funds from a company that was awarded a tender to install solar panels in schools in Sarawak.

It was reported that the former special officer allegedly demanded money amounting to millions of ringgit from a company based in Bintulu and it was believed to have amounted to millions of ringgit.

Sarawak Report previously reported that former prime minister Najib had signed off on a RM1.25 billion solar panel installati­on project for 369 schools in Sarawak.
