They have been remanded over alleged misconduct involving ship maintenance
ASABAH Ports and Harbours Department director is one of the four individuals detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to assist in an investigation into alleged misconduct involving ship maintenance.
MACC yesterday obtained a remand order against the director and three contractor company directors, in their 40s and 50s, from the magistrate’s court here.
Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus allowed a remand of two to four days against all the accused, who were present in court.
Prosecuting officer Faliq Basiruddin appeared for MACC.
The department’s director and two others, who were unrepresented, were remanded for four days, while another contractor company director, who was represented by counsel Edward Paul, was allowed two-day remand.
MACC officers picked up the four directors at the commission’s office yesterday, as well as at their respective residences here to assist in a probe into whether there was corruption in the maintenance of ships anchored in Sabah waters from 2016 until this year.
They searched for documents at the residences. MACC is probing the amount of money in the alleged misconduct.
All the accused were remanded under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009 for giving or accepting gratification by an agent.
