PKR must open all posts for contest, says Wanita chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita PKR chief Zuraida Kamaruddin wants the party to open all positions for contest.

PKR, she said, must respect its constitution by doing so.

She praised the leadership of Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, who is PKR deputy president.

“Azmin is among the dynamic leaders. This was proven in the previous Selangor administration.

“His senior government portfolio as economic affairs minister proves his contributions will have a positive impact on our joint efforts to steer PKR.

“As such, Wanita PKR stresses that besides welcoming Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s offer to contest the presidency, the party must also respect its constitution by opening space for a contest in any position without any hindrance.”

PKR Supreme Council member Amirudin Shari said members should be open to the idea that everyone could contest the presidency.

“What’s most important is to ensure that any contest strengthens the party, not damages it,” he said at an event in Sungai Kandis yesterday.

Amirudin, who is Selangor menteri besar, said PKR must show that it was a democratic party.

Last Sunday, Anwar announced that he would contest the party presidency.

He said the decision was made after consulting PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail, Azmin and other senior leaders.

Reports, however, have suggested that Azmin would also contest the top post.

Azmin has refused to confirm or deny the matter.
