MEDIA Prima Television Networks (MPTN) chief executive officer Johan Ishak yesterday unveiled his solo art exhibition, titled “Caricreatures”, at Galeri Prima, Balai Berita.

The exhibition, which runs from yesterday to Aug 10, features 80 “pop art” pieces with animal motifs.

Johan said the artworks differed from his previous works, which were more contemporary and expressive.

“My works this time are simpler and easier to understand as there are 80 different animals with varying characters.

“They represent the Chinese zodiac and hark back to childhood nicknames from the past.

“Before this, my works were more inclined towards oil and acrylic.

“But this time, I used only a stylus pen on my Samsung Note and transferred them to my computer before printing them on canvas.”

Johan said the works were produced in 2016 and last year, coinciding with the birth of his third child.

“I made them after my wife complained that I was too busy and was taking too long to complete any artwork using oil and acrylic.

“That’s why I then chose digital pieces, which are easier and faster.

“Furthermore, they better suit the character of children, who are fond of multicoloured and cheerful pieces.”

A portion of the profits from sales of the artworks will be channelled to TV3’s Tabung Bersamamu to help the needy, such as by providing a platform for youngsters and artists to display their works.
