‘Protest against govt for not fulfilling promises’

-

SHAH ALAM: The Sungai Kandis by-election is a platform for the people to voice their grouses about the Pakatan Harapan government, said an Umno leader yesterday.

Selangor Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this was why Barisan Nasional decided to field Datuk Lokman Noor Adam as a candidate.

“The people are dissatisfied because of the government’s failure to deliver on its promises.

“Young voters in Sungai Kandis need to remember that the PTPTN (National Higher Education Fund Corporation) issue is unresolved.

“With BN contesting, we are giving space to the people to protest (against the government) by voting for us,” he said at the “Diskusi N49: Calon Suara Rakyat” programme on Facebook last night.

Ismail and Lokman served as panellists in the forum, which was moderated by Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz.

Ismail said voters in Sungai Kandis needed to send a signal to the Federal Government that they would not vote for PH if it failed to fulfil its promises.

“If the people want to send a signal, we must ensure Lokman’s victory. If we win, we will send a signal that the people can no longer tolerate what is going on.

“This Aug 4, voters must express their feelings through the ballot box.

“If BN wins, we believe there will be change. If we lose, it will send a signal that the government can do anything it wants.”

He said BN’s participation in the by-election was a test of its relationship with Pas.

He said Pas’s decision not to field a candidate proved that both parties had “passed the test”.
