PARTI Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) looks on track to establish its first Sarawak branch in Petra Jaya. Its branch chief, Affendi Jeman, said an application to open a branch would be submitted to the party headquarters in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.

“I will submit it myself. We hope to get an approval soon.”

The branch, he said, had a 17member committee, aged between 25 and 60.

He said most of them were new in politics. He said they were looking for a platform to serve the nation and people.

“We will recruit more members and meet our partners, including DAP, PKR and Parti Amanah Negara, after we get the approval from the party headquarters,” he said after a committee meeting yesterday.

Affendi, who has been with the party for two years, was confident that the people here would accept PPBM, as long as the party served them with integrity and sincerity.

“Being a Peninsular Malaysiabased party should not be an issue as we are all Malaysians. It won’t limit what we can do for our people here.

“DAP and PKR are well-accepted by locals too. So, I don’t see any reason why PPBM will be rejected.”

He said the people, regardless of whether they were from the peninsula or Sarawak, had voiced their wishes in the last general election by voting for change.

“We will let voters know of the changes we can bring to Petra Jaya, although we know that the constituency is a PBB stronghold,” he said, referring to Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu.

On the setup of PPBM in the state, including the position of state chairman and committee members, Affendi said he could not comment further.

“We will let our party chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad decide.”
