Pas may sit out Balakong by-election
KOTA BARU: Pas may not field a candidate in the Balakong byelection following the death of its assemblyman, Ng Tien Chee, in a road accident on Friday.
Pas vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the decision had yet to be finalised, but most party members were of the view that the party should not contest in the by-election.
“Just as we decided not to contest the Sungai Kandis by-election, we will do the same for the Balakong by-election.
“The percentage of Malay voters in Balakong is lower than in Sungai Kandis, which supports our principle of not contesting,” he said yesterday.
In the 12.40am accident, the Nissan X-Trail driven by Ng rammed into the rear of a lorry carrying out maintenance work at Km11.7 of the Grand Saga Highway in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.
Ng, also known as Eddie Ng, 40, was reportedly on his way to Kajang.
He died at the scene.
On the Sungai Kandis by-election, Amar, who is deputy menteri besar, said Pas did not discuss or have any agreement with Barisan Nasional to help with the election campaign.
“We will not assist BN in the Sungai Kandis by-election.
“We did not have any discussion with the party on the matter.”
