Redemption for sprinter Aiedel

junior sprinter Muhammad Aiedel Sa’adon made up for the disappoint­ment of missing out on gold in the 100m sprint on Saturday with a victorious performanc­e in the 4x100m at the Asean School Games (ASG) in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

The 18-year-old, who teamed up with Rusleem Zikry Putra Rosli, Ilham Suhaimi and Azeem Fahmi, ran the last leg and crossed the line in 41.07 seconds to secure gold for Malaysia at the National Sports Council Mini Stadium.

Indonesia took silver on 41.20s while Thailand (41.28s) completed the podium.

Aiedel said he felt happy and relieved to win the gold for Malaysia.

“It feels great to make up for the mistake I did yesterday. I think we did well today,” said Aiedel.

“I felt a little nervous at the start but after seeing Rusleem, Ilham and Azeem all put in strong runs, I felt really motivated.”

Aiedel will next focus on preparing for the Malaysia Games in Perak (September) where he will represent Melaka.

Earlier yesterday, Ilham emerged victorious in the 400m in a time of 47.41s. Vietnam’s Tran Nhat Hoang (48.16s) and Dewa Radika Sya (48.74s) of Indonesia settled for silver and bronze.

Ngu Ing Biao also delivered gold in the discus with a winning throw of 55.94m. Singaporea­n Jonathan Low (54.70m) and Thailand’s Bandit Singhatong­kul (53.76m) came in second and third.

In gymnastics, Izzah Amzan clinched two gold for Malaysia in the individual all around and team event together with Ng Jia Wen, Iris Hoo and Rayna Hoh.

Malaysia ended the second day of the ASG in second place overall with eight gold, 14 silver and seven bronze. Indonesia are first on 9-8-11 while Thailand are third with 8-8-11.
