DUTCH LADY EXPECTS TO BOOST MART SHARE
Continuous innovation in product offerings to help strengthen presence in Malaysia, says MD
DUTCH Lady Milk Industries Bhd (Dutch Lady Malaysia) aims to strengthen its market share in formulated milk powder for children through product innovation based on consumer demand, says managing director Tarang Gupta.
He said the company had continuously improved its products over the years and was responsible for shaping Malaysia’s formulated milk powder for children.
Gupta said currently the company controlled 20 per cent of local market share for the category.
“Since our inception in Malaysia more than 55 years ago, the company has been committed to nourishing the nation with trusted dairy nutrition.
“In line with this, we have been responsible for introducing key developments in toddler nutri- tion. In fact, we were the first to introduce formulated milk powder for children in Malaysia in 1998.
“We were also the first to introduce zero per cent sucrose, or less sucrose formulation, in our products in 2012 to help address the rising concerns of non-communicable diseases in Malaysia,” said Gupta after launching the new pack of formulated milk powder here recently.
Dutch Lady Malaysia now offers the highest level of DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) in its formulated milk powder for children from one to three years old.
The new pack offers 20mg, or 8.7 per cent, of DHA per serving, compared with 15mg to 18mg per serving offered by its competitors.
Gupta said the improved Dutch Lady 123 formulation also contained higher nutrient values for protein, vitamin D3, vitamin C, vitamin B12, vitamin B6 and vitamin K, which were essential nutrients for a growing child.
“We are pleased to achieve another milestone in the product category of formulated milk powder for children by providing the highest level of DHA in every serving of Dutch Lady 123.
“We realise that the toddler years are the most important period of cognitive, emotional and social development. Many parents understand that DHA is a key nutrient to support the development of a child,” he added.
