ZAHID: I’M READY TO BE PROBED
He refutes allegations linking him to local firm accused of fleecing Nepali workers
OPPOSITION leader Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is ready to be investigated over allegations linking him to a Malaysian company which has been accused of swindling Nepali workers.
Zahid said the company, Bestinet Sdn Bhd, was not owned by him or his family members.
“Please give evidence if I am involved or there is abuse of power involving us or my family...I am prepared to face any investigation,” Zahid said at the Parliament lobby here yesterday.
Zahid was responding to a report in the Nepali Times which stated that Nepali foreign workers were fleeced out of hundreds of millions of ringgit. The report had claimed that Amin Abdul Nor, supposedly Zahid’s brotherin-law, owned the company.
The company was accused of raking in RM185 million between 2013 and this year.
Zahid, however, said he did not have any family member with that name.
“I don’t have a Bangladeshi brother-in-law by that name. I also believe that the company was in business before I even entered the Home Ministry,” he said.
A Pakatan Harapan (PH) member of parliament urged Zahid to declare his assets.
Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir (PH-Johor Baru), debating on the motion of thanks to the king’s speech in Dewan Rakyat, said since ministers had agreed to declare their assets, it is proper for Zahid, the opposition leader, to declare his assets.
