Cops liaising with Japanese authorities on duo’s arrest

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are still waiting for a full report from the Japanese authorities on two Malaysian women arrested at Haneda International Airport in Tokyo for allegedly smuggling drugs into the country.

Federal Narcotics Department director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh said his department had received an initial report that the Japanese authorities had seized 1.5kg of methamphetamine worth RM3.3 million.

However, he said Tokyo had yet to get back to them with a full report.

“From the information we received, two Sabahan women in their 20s were detained on July 19.

“We are liaising with our Japanese counterparts.

“However, since the arrests were made by Japanese Customs officers, their police have yet to get a full report,” he said at the Ampang police headquarters here.

It was reported that the suspects, aged 20 and 22, departed from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. They allegedly hid eight packets of drugs in their undergarments and sanitary pads.

Tokyo Customs officers found the duo behaving suspiciously and carried out checks that led to the discovery of the substances.

It was reported that the women were co-workers at a hotel and had travelled to Japan using short-stay visas.
