KELANTAN GOVT UPBEAT PH WILL GIVE WAY FOR TABLING OF BILL
Pas man says this is based on Dr M’s willingness to make concessions
THE state government remains optimistic that Pakatan Harapan (PH) will pave the way for the tabling of Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act (RUU355) in Parliament.
State Islamic Development, Dakwah, Information and Regional Relations committee chairman Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud said this was based on Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s willingness to make concessions, including on oil royalty payment made to the state.
“Dr Mahathir had previously denied Kelantan its royalty payment during his previous tenure as prime minister, but he has recently agreed to it.
“Likewise, he was previously against the enactment and had warned against proceeding with the matter.
“People’s attitude can change and the same goes with the prime minister.
“We hope that he will look at RUU355 the same way as he handled the (state) oil royalty (issue),” he said in reply to a question by Datuk Md Alwi Che Ahmad (BN-Kok Lanas) at the state legislative assembly yesterday.
Nassuruddin, who is Meranti assemblyman, said the state government did not lose hope and would continue efforts to hold discussions with the Federal Government on the matter.
Alwi had earlier suggested Kelantan Pas make another attempt to have RUU355 tabled in Parliament.
“We convinced the previous government to proceed with the bill.
“Why can’t we ‘test’ our seventh prime minister (on the matter?
“We’ll see what they (the Federal Government) can do. I’m confident that the people are with us as it’s for the good of Islam.”
