Federal govt postpones 4 major Perlis projects

-

KANGAR: The Federal Government has put on hold four major state projects, including Padang Besar Hospital, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man.

He said the state government had received the order through a letter.

He said according to the letter, projects that recorded less than 15 per cent progress would be put on hold and be reviewed by the Finance Ministry.

“We have replied to the Federal Government asking for the matter to be relooked at as the decision would affect the people.

“It would be a loss as the development would not only benefit Perlis folk, but Malaysians in general, as well as the Federal Government as they generate income for the government,” he said after the state legislative assembly yesterday.

Among the affected projects are Lembah Chuping Industrial Area (CVIA), Bukit Chabang Sports school and the Integrated Public Transport Terminal.

Earlier, state New Growth Centres Development Committee chairman, Asmaiza Ahmad, said only one out of the 10 first phase packages of CVIA had been completed.

“The Integrated Business Centre is under construction, while the other nine were scheduled to be implemented in the first and fourth quarter of the year.

“However, the acquisition of the nine packages is subject to the decision by the Finance Ministry after the postponement letter, dated June 29, was issued to allow the review process to be carried,” said the Chuping assemblyman, in reply to a question by Gan Ay Lin (PH-Indera Kayangan) on the status of CVIA project.

Meanwhile, state Education Committee chairman Roziena Ahmad said the sports school project, which began on Feb 2, was originally scheduled for completion in February 2020.

“The project is four per cent completed, with a total of RM378,000 spent on the early phase works including site clearing,” said Roziena, who is Pauh assemblyman, in reply to a question by Mohd Ridzuan Hashim (Pas-Guar Sanji).
