‘I don’t blame nursery for son’s death’

-

BACHOK: “I don’t blame them (the nursery),” said Zainal Abidin Deraman, 34, father of the 4month-old infant, who died after he was believed to have choked on his milk at a nursery in Bukit Baru, Melaka, yesterday.

The incident was discovered by the nursery babysitters at 11.45am after seeing Yusuf Al Baihaqi’s face turning blue.

Further checks at the Malacca Hospital confirmed that the youngest of the two siblings had died.

Zainal said he and his wife Roslina Ismail, 34 were informed by a doctor that the cause of death of their child was probably from bacterial lung infection.

He said, however, they were waiting for a laboratory report to confirm the cause of their son’s death.

“After the post-mortem was concluded at 1am, the doctors confirmed that they didn’t find any criminal or child abuse elements.

“Early information gathered on the death points to a possibility of a bacterial lung infection.

“We are waiting for the full report on this.

“I haven’t thought of taking any action (against the nursery) yet. I don’t blame the babysitter,” he said after Yusuf’s burial at the Muslim cemetery in Kampung Alor Bakat here yesterday.

“I accept this as fate even though I waited for a long time to have my second child,” he said.

The New Straits Times Press yesterday reported that the baby was fed milk, which was supplied by his mother at 8.50am, and the nursery claimed that it had ensured the milk was digested before putting the baby to sleep.

However, when the babysitter checked on the baby at 11.45am, the baby was unconscious.

Melaka Tengah District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Afzanizar Ahmad was quoted as saying that police had received the report from a Hospital Melaka medical officer at 12.30pm.
