DO IT RIGHT

-

GETTING the right shade is just winning the first stage of the battle where foundation is concerned.

What’s equally important is how you apply it.

Here are some ways to achieve that flawless, seamless finish:

1. Apply five dots — one each on your cheeks, forehead, chin and neck, and distribute outward in a circular motion using a foundation brush for a flawless finish.

2. Always apply under natural light so you can see the finish clearly and make any adjustments. Otherwise you will walk out the door looking like you’re in the midst of make-up madness.

3. Don’t go overboard with foundation. Apply sparingly and only to those parts of the face that need to be evened out. This ensures a natural finish.

4. To avoid “creasing”, apply foundation on the smooth, unlined areas of the face first, like your cheeks. Blend from there, avoiding areas like crow’s-feet and smile lines.

5. Always apply in downward strokes to avoid highlighting the fine hairs on your face. Most women have fine facial hair on their cheeks that grows downwards and isn’t that noticeable. But if you swipe your foundation in upward strokes, these hairs will be highlighted.

6. If you have oily skin, apply primer on your T-zone to keep skin matte and to prevent foundation from breaking down.

7. After applying foundation, spray a skin mist onto the large, flat side of a damp beauty blender and press it all over your skin. This helps take away the “made up” look and instead gives you a natural, hydrated complexion.

8. To make your foundation last all day, run a fluffy make-up brush over translucent powder and dust over your T-zone or lightly mist your face with a setting spray.
