Dr M joins 2,000 in prayers in conjunction with Warriors Day
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad joined more than 2,000 people for Friday prayers at Masjid Khalid Al-Walid in Jalan Padang Tembak here in conjunction with Warriors Day.
Dr Mahathir, clad in a gray baju Melayu, arrived at the mosque at 1.25pm. He shook hands with those there as he walked in.
Most of those who were there were senior police or armed forces officers and staff from the Defence Ministry.
Present were Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun and Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin were also present.
Dr Mahathir and those present then listened to a khutbah (sermon) delivered by Armed Forces Religious Corps director MajorGeneral Datuk Kamarudin Mamat entitled “Warrior: Your Sacrifice is Always in My Heart”.
Among the points raised in the khutbah was the sacrifices made by security forces to defend the sovereignty of the nation and the safety of the people.
Kamarudin also spoke about the importance of remembering such sacrifices and learning from the spirit of warriors.
