2 HURT AS POLICE TRUCK OVERTURNS

17 detainees in vehicle in 8.45am incident in front of court complex

TWO detainees suffered light injuries when the truck transporti­ng them overturned along Jalan Dato’ Hamzah in front of the Klang court complex yesterday morning.

Klang Selatan district police chief Assistant Commission­er Shamsul Amar Ramli said in the 8.45am incident, a police truck overturned at the turning in front of the complex.

“There were 17 detainees from the Klang Utara district police headquarte­rs, including one woman, and six detainees from the Klang Selatan district police headquarte­rs in the truck,” he said.

“All detainees aged between 22 and 42 managed to be taken out (of the truck) and were sent to court for their remand orders under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

“Two male detainees suffered light head and hand injuries, the female detainee complained of body aches, one escorting officer had back pain and the driver suffered a swollen finger.

“The injured received treatment at the court.

“However, further medical checks will be conducted once the court process is settled.”

Shamsul Amar said the truck was being driven from the Shah Alam central lock-up when the incident took place.

“When he (the driver) was making a turn to enter the court complex, he lost control and the truck overturned.”

The case is being investigat­ed under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
