Azan Ismail to contest VP position

-

KUALA TERENGGANU: State PKR chairman Azan Ismail has offered to contest one of the vice-president positions in the party polls next month.

The former Bandar assemblyman said he made the decision after being urged by 15,000 party members from eight PKR branches in the state.

He said he was also seeking to contest the position because no PKR leaders in the east coast states would go for any of the party’s top positions.

“I am stating my stand that I support our de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in his run for the presidency.

“Even though I am not well known in several states, including west coast states, if I am given the mandate, I will support and cooperate with Anwar to strengthen the party,” he told the New Straits Times Press.

Azan said Terengganu PKR believed Anwar’s decision to contest the presidency was the right choice as he had the charisma to lead the country in the political era of a “new Malaysia”.

He said Anwar was a symbol of unity for the people and a catalyst for cooperation among parties in Pakatan Harapan.

“Terengganu PKR respects Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s willingness to step aside for Anwar.

“We thank her for all the sacrifices she has made to lead the party to where it is now.”
