Search for best UD Quester driver
preliminary rounds for the UD Extra Mile Challenge 2018 has begun.
Organised by UD Trucks and its sole distributor partner in Malaysia, Tan Chong Industrial Equipment Sdn Bhd (TCIE), the UD Extra Mile Challenge 2018 is a friendly competition aimed at increasing drivers’ competency through skills enhancement and knowledge on how to maximise the capability of a UD Quester heavy-duty truck.
The winner will represent Malaysia at the Global Finals in Japan later this year.
It is an annual drivers’ competition held in stages - preselection, local finals and global finals.
Enthusiastic UD Quester drivers will be tested on several elements, including pre-inspection, fuel efficiency and safety, as well as drivability.
“The UD Extra Mile Challenge was designed based on UD Trucks’ brand promise of ‘Going the Extra Mile’, as embodied by our company values, quality products and services.
“We always go the extra mile in everything we do and we are always looking for ways to provide our customers with the optimum transport solutions — to provide ultimate dependability.
“Apart from building and selling trucks that our customers can rely on, we take high regard on how we can continue supporting in the aftersales period.
“This is where UD Extra Mile Challenge comes in, as it teaches drivers on fuel efficiency, good driving techniques and behaviours with the aim of enhancing the drivers’ skills and confidence, which will then allow them to carry out their jobs efficiently,” said UD Trucks managing director hub Malaysia Filip Van Den Heede in a statement.
A total of more than 40 UD Quester truck drivers from all over Malaysia have entered the pre-selection rounds of the competition. All four pre-selection rounds were completed recently - at TCIE Batu Caves on July 7, TCIE Johor Baru on July 14, TCTS Bukit Mertajam on July 21 and Edaran Setia Auto Sdn Bhd in Kuantan on July 28.
“Due to the overwhelming response from last year’s competition, we have decided to add another location for the pre-selection making it more accessible for enthusiastic UD Quester drivers from the East Coast,” said TCIE chief operating officer Jaclyn Loy.
A total of 10 contestants who scored the highest point will qualify for the UD Extra Mile Challenge Malaysia final next month.
At the Malaysia final, contestants will be assessed based overall best scoring for Best Pre-Drive inspection, Best Fuel Consumption and Best Driving skill, where a winner of each category will also received an award.
The local champion will receive an all-expense paid trip to Japan to represent Malaysia at the UD Extra Mile Challenge Global Finals 2018.
Additionally, the winner will also walk away with Quester Parts voucher worth RM2,000 and an exclusive driver training session held in the winner’s company for all the drivers.
Apart from these, each sub-category winner will also take-home Quester Parts voucher worth RM500.
