BN HOPES TO CAPTURE 50PC OF INDIAN VOTES
Candidate claims PH failed to resolve issues affecting community
BARISAN Nasional is targeting an increase of up to 50 per cent of votes from the Indian community in the Sungai Kandis by-election as the community is apparently dissatisfied with the Pakatan Harapan government.
BN candidate Datuk Lokman Noor Adam claimed that from his meetings with locals, the Indian community was critical of PH’s administration, which failed to address issues concerning their interests.
“In the 14th General Election, the Indian community only gave 25 per cent of their votes to BN. But thanks to MIC and several non-governmental organisations, I found out that many of them are not at ease with PH.
“I am targeting an increase of up to 50 per cent of votes (from the community) this time,” Lokman said during his campaign rounds to meet the community in Kampung Jawa.
Present was MIC Youth chief Datuk C. Sivarraajh.
Lokman also reiterated his hopes for both Umno and Pas members to come out to vote on polling day.
“Back then, there were some Umno members who, in protest (against the party leadership), had voted for PKR. I hope this time, they will return to help BN win.
“As for Pas supporters, I am confident that the party’s stand to vote for BN will be adhered to.”
Lokman pledged to bring the voice and interests of the Sungai Kandis electorate to the Selangor PH government.
He questioned why PKR candidate Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni had to pledge to champion local issues when PKR had been part of the state administration for three terms.
Lokman suggested that PH had failed to address local woes.
“Usually, it is the opposition that champions local issues, not PKR. What does that mean?” he said.
