Pas leadership throws weight behind BN’s Lokman

-

SHAH ALAM: Pas’ leadership has instructed its members and supporters on Saturday night to vote for Barisan Nasional in the Sungai Kandis by-election on Aug 4.

Pas Syura Council member Datuk Dr Khairuddin Aman Razali said it was incumbent upon members and supporters to vote for BN candidate Datuk Lokman Noor Adam as Pakatan Harapan (PH) was not a “coalition that upholds Islam”.

He said in the two months since PH became the Federal Government, it had failed to safeguard Islam.

He stressed that according to Islamic experts, it was the duty of a leader to uphold Islam.

“However, in these two months, PH has failed to show its commitment to defending Islam. Hence, it is incumbent on us to reject PH. Do you agree or not?

“So, how do we reject PH now that it has failed to (among others) manage the economy in the way decreed by Allah?

“Before us, there is a platform to show our rejection — the Sungai Kandis by-election. It is our duty to reject PH and automatically, it has become our duty to vote for a candidate from Umno, who is Lokman,” Khairuddin said at the Bangkit Pas Selangor programme in Bukit Naga, Kota Raja.

Present were Pas information chief Nasrudin Hassan, Selangor Pas commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi, Selangor Pas election director Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir and Lokman.

Earlier, Nasrudin said Pas could not accept the ways of the PH government, which should be taught a political lesson by Pas members and supporters, who would ensure the defeat of PKR’s Sungai Kandis candidate Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni.

Nasrudin implored Pas members to vote on polling day.

“(You must vote) during the election. If (you) don’t, then surely PH will win. And to whom should we give our votes?

“If we move to boycott polling day, then PH will have an additional 7,000 votes at least.

“So, who do we vote for? (The candidate) is there,” Nasrudin said, pointing to Lokman.

Later, Lokman, who is Umno Supreme Council member, said he was touched by the support show by Pas, which he said he was in dire need of.

“If I can get full support from all of the Pas voters here, and between 15 and 17 per cent of those who voted for PH in the 14th General Election (GE14), I can win with a slim majority of 135 votes.

“The main challenge now is that (I will fall short of) 4,900 votes, even if BN and Pas pooled their votes. We need to find the 4,900 votes.

“I hope the (support) will translate into (votes). This is because Pas holds to the principle of loyalty. If there is a decree, members usually adhere to it,”

Lokman said he would seek the support of the Indian community.

“I hope I can get more than 40 per cent of the Indian community’s votes, compared with the 0.25 per cent (given to BN in GE14).”
