‘Organiser cooperated with cops’

-

JOHOR BARU: The Himpunan Kebangkitan Ummah gathering at Kelab Sultan Sulaiman in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur, on Saturday, went on without a hitch or any untoward incident.

Deputy InspectorGeneral of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said this was because the organiser of the gathering worked closely with police throughout the event.

“It went well. Among those I saw attending were Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim and Tan Sri Zaman Khan, with about 3,500 to 4,000 other attendees. Everything went smoothly and by the rule of law,” he said after a ceremony to award medals to Johor police officers at the state police headquarters here.

Noor Rashid said police were present at the gathering to ensure that everything went smoothly and to protect those there and in the vicinity.

“The organiser cooperated with us. This is the kind of gathering we hope to see in the future.

“We will help any such gathering, and we hope that organisers will follow the rules and regulations that have been set.”

The gathering was attended by non-governmental organisations such as Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia, Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia and Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa.

Among the issues they protested included the questioning of the status of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong by certain parties and the government’s plan to recognise the Unified Examination Certificate.
