BADMINTON legend, Datuk Seri Jalani Sidek described the ill Lee Chong Wei as a fighter and will not give up easily in the face of adversities. Jalani believes that the former World No 1 will soon be back in good health and even be in contention for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic gold.

“The Chong Wei I know is a fighter. He will not surrender easily whether on and off the court.

“In view of the situation, everyone should give Chong Wei space for him to focus on his treatment and recovery.

“I support Chong Wei’s decision to withdraw from the World Championships and Asian Games because his health is the priority.

“He is willing to sacrifice two big competitions this year to get treatment to realise his 2020 Tokyo Olympic dream,” said Jalani yesterday.

On Saturday, NSTP Sport reported that the three-time Olympic silver medallist is facing a serious health issue which will most likely bring his illustrious career to a premature end.

Chong Wei, 36, is now in Taiwan for medical treatment where he is expected to be for two months.

According to a statement by BAM last Tuesday, Chong Wei was facing breathing problems, and he will rest for a month to undergo treatment.
