BAM chief urges Malaysians to respect Chong Wei’s privacy

- Helmi Talkah

BA of Malaysia (BAM) have called for Lee Chong Wei’s privacy to be respected and that he be given the space to recover from his illness.

The three-time Olympic silver medallist is now in Taiwan for medical treatment where he is expected to be for two months.

BAM president Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria said Chong Wei has done much for the country with his achievements, and his privacy should be respected.

“BAM respect Chong Wei’s privacy and have given him space to decide on what is best to ensure he is back to good health.

“Wherever he decides to go to get treatment, BAM will support him fully.

“If there is any new development in the next two to three weeks, I will make it known. As of now, please let Chong Wei focus on his treatment,” he said.

On Saturday, NSTP Sport reported that the World No 2 was facing a serious health issue which is likely to bring his illustrious career to a premature end.

Because of his health problem, Chong Wei, 36, had to withdraw from the World Championships in Nanjing, China, which begins on Monday and the Asian Games in Jakarta from Aug 19-28.

According to a statement issued by BAM last Tuesday, Chong Wei was facing breathing problems, and he will rest for a month to undergo treatment.

Norza has also asked Malaysians to pray for Chong Wei’s recovery.
