KUALA LUMPUR: Serunai Commerce Sdn Bhd, which founded the Global Halal Data Pool (GHDP), is close to concluding a deal with a global online platform.

Founder and chief executive officer Amnah Shaari said the company was currently in talks with the platform provider.

She said currently, 70 per cent of the products offered through the online platform were found to have dubious halal status.

“Through this partnership, we will help the platform to verify the halal status of the products it offers,” she said.

She said GHDP was the world’s first halal data centre connecting halal suppliers, manufacturers, product service providers, buyers and retailers to the global market.

“This centre is linked to 39 other global data centres involving more than 150 world markets.

“The system empowers companies in GHDP’s list to expand products and services and build long-term business and market relations,” she said.

Meanwhile, Serunai Commerce has concluded cooperation with global snacking powerhouse Mondelez to link information on the latter’s product lines on the “Verify Halal” application.

She said the company was also in talks with other parties.

The Verify Halal app is another initiative developed by the company to enable it to become a global reference platform for the certification of halal products from 42 countries, including South Africa, Austria, India and Brunei.
