‘Bestinet caused shortage of Nepalese workers‘

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The temporary withdrawal of the visit pass for temporary employment (PLKS) is not the cause of shortage of Nepalese workers in Malaysia, said Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran.

He believed the shortage was due to misappropriation by Bestinet Sdn Bhd.

It was reported that Bestinet was allegedly involved in a scam to milk RM185 million from hundreds of thousands of Nepalese who sought work in the country over the past five years.

“From what I understand, this started due to outsourcing by Bestinet.

“With the temporary withdrawal of PLKS, the system will be refined and improved. This is to prevent future misappropriation,” he said at the Dewan Rakyat here yesterday.

He believed the matter would be resolved.

“We know there is an issue and there are ways to overcome this.

“We believe it will be a win-win situation.

“Nepalese workers are the most sought-after as they are known to be honest, hardworking and punctual.”

Kulasegaran was responding to an additional question by Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Mohamed Said (BN-Kuala Krau) on whether the Nepal government had lost interest in sending workers to Malaysia due to the temporary withdrawal of PLKS.
