Azmin to announce PKR polls’ plan after by-election
SHAH ALAM: PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali will announce whether he will defend his post, or challenge Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the presidency after the Sungai Kandis byelection.
Azmin said he would help the party’s election machinery in the by-election first.
“After that, I will consider my options (for the party election),” he said at a barbecue event with PKR candidate for the by-election, Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni, on Monday night.
Present was Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.
On PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli announcing his candidacy for the deputy president’s post, he said: “I respect his decision to contest (the deputy presidency)... this is a democratic process and should not be considered odd. This is one of PKR’s strengths.
“I have been deputy president for 20 years because I contested it. I didn’t get this post for free.”
On his appointment to the board of directors for Khazanah Nasional Bhd, he said he appreciated the confidence placed in him to help return the country’s strategic investment arm to its original role.
“I am grateful to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for his trust in me.”
The government yesterday announced the appointment of five new members to the Khazanah board of directors, with Dr Mahathir as chairman.
Besides Azmin, the other directors are Council of Eminent Persons member Tan Sri Mohd Hassan Marican, former deputy Bank Negara Malaysia governor Dr Sukhdave Singh and Maybank Asset Management Group Bhd chairman Goh Ching Yin.
The Prime Minister’s Office, in a statement, said the appointments would take effect immediately, adding that the new Khazanah managing director would be announced at a later date.
