Spurs may not make any signings, says Pochettino

LONDON: Tottenham may not add any new faces during this transfer window, admits Mauricio Pochettino as he refuses to answer whether the club have listened to his advice about being “brave”.

Spurs are one of just two Premier League clubs yet to make a summer signing.

The highly-rated Argentine, has delivered three top-three finishes without breaking the bank.

However, Spurs are just one of just two Premier League clubs yet to make a signing in a transfer window which closes on Aug 9 — something Pochettino believes puts English sides at a disadvantage with the rest of Europe.

When directly asked if the club had done what he wanted over the off-season, Pochettino responded: “I think I am working and focused on trying to deliver my job, our job.

“I try to prepare the team. That’s the focus and we're concentrating on that.”

Pochettino also referenced the business done by their Premier League rivals.

“Of course we are going to compete with big sides and they are doing a lot of business,” he said.

“For us it’s still difficult to do. But in our mind it’s always to be competitive is the most important.

“We are going to play with 11 and try to be competitive and try to win every single game.”

Spurs take on AC Milan in Minneapolis on Tuesday night in the final game of their US tour.

They are in the midst of a midfield injury crisis and it is understood that, aside from a move for Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, no new arrivals are imminent.

Pochettino, who has been linked with Manchester United should Jose Mourinho depart, admitted he was in the dark over how many new faces he could expect at the club, who are set to open their new stadium in September, and could even be left with no new blood.

Any business would have to be completed by Aug 9 after Premier League clubs — including Spurs — voted overwhelmingly to close the window earlier than the rest of the continent.
