MALAYSIAN fashion label Farah Khan hosted The Art of Style by Farah Khan in London recently, showcasing 30 pieces of couture designs inspired by art masters of the 20th century including Picasso, Matisse, Chagall and Monet.
The Maitres de l’art Collection sees artworks translated as embellished skirts and evening gowns embroidered in jeweltoned beads. Pieces include Picasso’s Les Femmes d’ Alger as a richly-hued dress and Juan Gris’ Still Life with Guitar transformed into an intricately-beaded piece.
The event at the Halcyon Gallery also comprised of a limited edition collection of Andy Warhol-inspired bomber jackets based on Warhol’s Advertising Portfolio exhibit at the gallery. Farah Khan also created a capsule collection of jackets based on the work of sculptor Lorenzo Quinn.
“This exhibition is the culmination of years of passion, observation and travel, and of course, the dedication and hard work of my incredible design team,” says Datuk Seri Farah Khan, president and founder of The Melium Group and creative director of her label.
“Art is the greatest expression of human creativity and it moves me as much as architecture and fashion, perhaps more, because it has that gravitas of ‘all or nothing’.”
The Art of Style by Farah Khan, in partnership with Malaysia Airlines, was on exhibit at Halcyon Gallery from June 27 to July 1.
