‘AFTER 40 YEARS, LET ME REST’
CAAM chairman doesn’t want to prolong resignation issue
CIVIL Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) chairman Datuk Seri Azharuddin Abd Rahman said he just wanted to rest after 40 years of working in the aviation industry.
Refusing to answer questions whether he had been pressured to resign from his post, Azharuddin said he did not want to prolong the issue of his resignation.
“I made the decision to quit after thinking about it thoroughly. It’s enough.
“I am not working anymore. I have issued my statement on Tuesday. I want to rest after this,” he said yesterday.
It was reported that Azharuddin had tendered his resignation as CAAM chairman a day after the release of the Malaysia International Civil Aviation Organisation Annex 13 Safety Investigation Team’s report on Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.
His resignation will take effect on Aug 14.
Azharuddin had said even though the report did not suggest that the incident was caused by the then Department of Civil Aviation, there were apparent findings with regard to the operations of the Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar said the government had yet to decide on Azharuddin’s replacement.
“We have not even discussed this, let alone identify the candidate to replace him,” he said in Parliament yesterday.
