ZAWAWI: MANIN VIDEO IS NOT ME
PKR candidate hits out at BN for allegedly spreading disparaging video
MOHD Zawawi Ahmad Mughni has expressed regret that he has once again become a victim of what he described as slander and personal attack.
The PKR candidate for the Sungai Kandis by-election said this was proven through the spread of a video clip on social media, which purportedly showed him dancing.
Zawawi said the video clip showed that Barisan Nasional was not interested in campaigning fairly, and had resorted to spreading fake news rather than making promises to the constituents.
“Recently, they (BN) had shown a video which featured a man who looked like me.
“It was viewed and shared by thousands of social media users.
“I do not know when and where it happened.
“I watched it last night (Wednesday night) and from the comments, many said they do not believe that it is me.
“The man in the video is not me. Sungai Kandis voters know me. I am not into dancing and clubbing (kaki joget and kaki kelab). I see that, sometimes, they (my detractors) want an ‘overkill’ so that voters dislike me.
“I want to give a reminder that we should avoid slander.
“We are competing in a democratic system that is fair and clean,” he said in a press conference in Kampung Sungai Kandis yesterday.
Zawawi said he was aware and foresaw the slander, as well as the lies that would be hurled at him after he was announced a candidate in the by-election.
“I had expected lies like this and I do not care with what is being spread. I am not afraid because I know the truth. I have lodged a report... If it continues, I will take further action.
“I ask that Malaysians, especially Sungai Kandis folk, to verify the information they get before spreading it.
“Ensure its authenticity. The Quran has stated that any news must be ensured of its truth before it is disseminated.”
Asked on rumours that Zawawi was slated to replace Shaharuddin Badaruddin as the Islamic Affairs, Education, Human Capital Development, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman, the former said he would leave the matter to the top leadership.
“I have not heard of any news about it. I will leave it to the top leadership.
“My focus is to win the by-election. If given the mandate, InsyaAllah (God willing), I will do my best (to serve the constituents),” he said.
