‘Anwar-Azmin combination ideal for party’s agenda’

-

GEORGE TOWN: Penang PKR has joined Perak PKR in promising support for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Datuk Seri Azmin Ali as party president and deputy president, respectively, in the party election.

State PKR chairman Datuk Mansor Othman said PKR, as the strongest component party of Pakatan Harapan, needed leaders of calibre.

As such, the Anwar-Azmin combination was ideal in the current political framework, he said.

“This is because PKR will not only face internal challenges, but external ones as well.

“For that, the party needs leaders who are experienced, have proven track records, possess excellent leadership (qualities) and utmost loyalty to the party’s struggle.

“And Anwar and Azmin possess all these characteristics.”

He said even before the start of the Reformasi movement in 1998, Azmin had proven to be a leading figure alongside Anwar.

“During the 1998 episode, he (Azmin) not only championed the party’s cause, but continued to remain loyal, when many other leaders chose to build their career, while others betrayed the struggle.

“He is not only excellent (as the deputy president) of the party, but also… as the Selangor menteri besar... (and now as) a senior minister in Pakatan Harapan’s cabinet.”

He said the synergy between Anwar and Azmin helped to uphold the reform agenda and was what was needed to lead the new Malaysia.
