NURUL IZZAH TO DEFEND VEEP POST
Seven names submitted for the four vice-presidency spots
NURUL Izzah Anwar will defend her position as PKR vice-president in the party election.
Her candidacy was confirmed by the party’s communication director, Fahmi Fadzil, who submitted nomination papers on her behalf at the party headquarters yesterday.
Izzah, who is Permatang Pauh member of parliament, could not submit her candidacy as she was in her constituency.
Seven names had been submitted for four vice-president’s post, including incumbent vicepresident Tian Chua and Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Dr Xavier Jayakumar.
Tian Chua said the election showed the party was practising democracy.
“We must use this process to strengthen ties between party members.”
He said this election was not to choose which side to support.
“This is not an election between teams. We hope to select individuals who can serve the party and the nation,” he said.
He hoped participants would embrace the spirit of unity.
Seberang Jaya assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin is set to contest the PKR Youth chief ’s post.
Afif announced that Gombak Setia assemblyman Muhammad Hilman Idham would contest the Youth deputy chief post.
Indera Mahkota member of parliament Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah will contest a central executive committee post.
Saifuddin, in his speech, pledged to give his best to the party.
Saifuddin, who is foreign minister, also submitted Semambu assemblyman Lee Chean Chung’s candidacy form for a central executive committee post.
