‘Haekal not himself before accident’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: “Mama, please buy a bicycle for Haekal. I will not trouble mama again.”

This was what Mohammad Haekal Rizal Abdullah, 8, said to his mother a day before he was run over by a garbage truck in Jalan Kampung Padang Balang here on Saturday.

The Year Two pupil of SK Taman Koperasi Polis Fasa 2, Batu Caves, was riding a bicycle when the truck rammed him.

He died of head injuries at the scene of the accident.

His mother, Yaatiaiana Salleh, 31, said Haekal had not been himself for a week.

“He asked for a bicycle a day before the incident and he threw eggs during a kenduri an hour before the crash. This had never happened. He was a reserved kid.

“Yesterday (Saturday), I was reluctant to go to work. I felt uneasy as if something was going to happen. But I don’t know why I went to work.

“When I was at work, I received the news. I am heartbroken that I couldn’t see him for the last time,” she said at the Raudhatul Sakinah Taman Selasih Muslim cemetery yesterday.

Haekal was laid to rest at 11.30am.

The single mother, who works as a cleaner, said Haekal had gone to a kenduri with his siblings before the accident.

“After they had lunch at the kenduri, my eldest son, Muhammad Shahrul Nizam Mohd Yari, 13, wanted to send his sister, Puteri Al-Shelly Abdullah, 5, and brother, Muhammat Kairul Fahmi Abdullah, 6, and Haekal home.

“But Haekal told Shahrul Nizam that he wanted to buy sweets. Feeling uneasy after sending AlShelly and Kairul Fahmi home, Shahrul Nizam went back to look for Haekal. That’s when our neighbour told him that Haekal had been killed in an accident.”

She said Haekal had expressed his wish to be circumcised during the school holiday.

“But his wish will never be fulfilled now,” she said, adding that she hoped the lorry driver would take responsibility for Haekal’s death.
