Bakke appointed as MPOB chairman on 2-year term

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh has been appointed as Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) chairman for a two-year term, effective July 31.

He is currently executive deputy chairman and managing director of Sime Darby Plantation Bhd.

MPOB said Bakke had vast experience in the oil palm industry.

He was responsibl­e for overseeing the core divisions within the Sime Darby group, which include plantation, property, industrial, motors and logistics.

Prior to joining Sime Darby, Bakke was the group managing director of Felda Holdings Bhd and group president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd.

He was also group managing director and CEO of Tabung Haji.

Bakke sits on several boards of director, including Eastern & Oriental Bhd and Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology.

He is a council member of the Northern Corridor Implementa­tion Authority and Global Science and Innovation Advisory Council, pro-chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia, a steering committee member of Malaysia Vision Valley as well as member of the National Productivi­ty Council and Majlis Bioekonomi Kebangsaan.

Bakke graduated with a bachelor of Science (Economics) from the London School of Economics in 1977.
