Azmin banks on loyalty to party to retain post

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Azmin Ali is banking on his loyalty to the party to help him retain the PKR deputy president’s post as he is set to face party vice-president Rafizi Ramli in the polls next month.

“Party members have known me for 20 years... when we talk about reformasi, the real challenge of reformasi was in 1998, at least the first 10 years and I was there.

“I have been loyal to the cause and the party’s struggle.

“Members have seen me in action, so I will leave it to them to decide,” he said at Parliament lobby here yesterday.

The PKR polls, which will see more than 800,000 party members casting their votes, will take place over the course of nine weeks starting next month.

When asked about his opponent Rafizi, Azmin said the former Pandan MP had every right to offer his services to the party.

“He is a member of the party. Every member has the right to offer his services to the party,” he said.

The clash between Azmin and Rafizi was a cause for concern for some, who were worried that it might end up weakening the party, especially at a time when Pakatan Harapan had yet to gain solid footing.

Party leadership, however, have quashed the suggestion, saying that the process is part of the principle of democracy practised by PKR.
