‘Perak admin building may be moved to Meru Raya’

-

IPOH: The Perak government is mulling relocating its administration building here to Meru Raya, where the new menteri besar’s official residence will be located.

Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu said Meru Raya was a fast-growing area and there were a number of administration offices and agencies operating there.

“This will be convenient for the people if all the buildings are located in one place.

“However, this plan needs to be studied and development research done holistically.

“We need to look into the social and economic needs, and public transport before we relocate the offices, just like what Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad did before he opened Putrajaya.”

Ahmad Faizal was answering a supplementary question from Dr Muhd Fadhil Nuruddin (PAN-Kamunting) who asked if the state government was planning to relocate its government agencies to Meru Raya as the menteri besar’s official residence would be built there.

Ahmad Faizal said houses for executive councillors, state secretary and state financial officers would also be built there.

Earlier, when answering a question from Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir (BN-Pangkor), Ahmad Faizal said the current state secretary’s official residence would serve as the menteri besar’s residence.

“The current residence can still be used for official events as it is equipped with good facilities and is spacious.

“However, it is no longer suitable to be located there and the land will be allocated for a development project.”

The present official residence of the menteri besar is located in the city centre here.
