‘PH must honour all pledges in manifesto’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Government backbenchers will urge Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to ensure that every pledge in the Pakatan Harapan manifesto is honoured.

Jelutong member of parliament R.S.N. Rayer said PH must be responsible in honouring all the pledges within the timeline stated in the manifesto so that the people would not lose trust in the government.

“As a government backbencher, I want to ensure that the pledges are honoured because the people are watching and evaluating us.

“It’s not that I want to caution the prime minister, as it is his prerogative to evaluate the manifesto. But if we do not honour our pledges, we will be no better than Barisan Nasional.

“This matter will be brought up in the Dewan Rakyat to ensure that the government sticks to its promises,” he said at the Parliament lobby here.

Dr Mahathir had recently been quoted as saying that the manifesto was not a “Bible”, which was to be followed completely, but merely a guideline, which could be followed or not, depending on circumstances.

On the perception that he was the “bad boy” of the Dewan Rakyat, Rayer said he was not bothered by it.

He admitted that he had, at times, used derogatory words, but claimed that he was provoked by opposition members of parliament.

“After being advised by the speaker, I spoke in a more polite manner, but the opposition MPs provoked me.

“The issues I brought up are for the good of the people and I will continue to voice out for them.”
