POLICE have arrested five and are tracking five others believed to be involved in the heist at the Customs Department here on Sunday.

Boxes containing drugs worth about RM30.4 million were stolen from the department’s Narcotics Unit in Kampung Jijan.

Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Noor Azam Jamaluddin said two of the five at large had been identified as Tong Lip Seong, 30, and Tung Seong Leong, 30, from Bukit Pelandok, Port Dickson.

He said police received a report from the two security guards on duty, who claimed that they had been robbed by 10 men, who broke a container at the premises in the 3am incident.

“Two Customs officers, aged 24 and 25, and two security guards, age 52 and 61, were then arrested,” he said at the state’s police headquarters here yesterday.

He said a 30-year-old civilian was also arrested. Police also seized 48.32g of ketamine, weighing instruments, seven mobile phones, two cars and RM58,973 in cash.

“The investigation found that two containers had arrived in Port Klang, Selangor from Pakistan on May 7.

“On June 7, a Customs inspection found 650 boxes containing 144 sealed packs of henna.

“Ketamine and heroin were also found in the boxes. Subsequently, the two containers were seized at the Customs Narcotics store on July 18.”

He said out of the 60 missing boxes, some were believed to contain drugs, while some contained henna.

He said each box contained 7.2kg of drugs and henna.

Based on market price, 1kg of heroin is worth RM162,000 and 1kg of ketamine is worth RM52,000.

He said only seven individuals had broken into the premises, contrary to an earlier report that 10 individuals were involved.

“The group took advantage of the situation after knowing that the drugs were stored in the store.

“The drugs were believed to be distributed to certain (criminal) groups.”
