Hands-on fun for Sri Bestari kids
TEACHING and learning must never be confined to academic endeavours carried out in the classroom or in laboratories. Children learn best by dwelling into a subject matter, exploring it with their hands and gaining practical exposure to the intricacies of why and how it works.
Similarly, as with many great scientific discoveries, this is conceived through keen observation of happenings and is often part of the understanding of how mother nature works.
Practical activities help create a greater appreciation of a student’s learning experience which can last a lifetime.
On July 14, Sri Bestari Private School carried out a whole host of activities for its students, from kindergarten to upper secondary.
The secondary students participated in the annual road run held at Taman Metropolitan Kepong, while primary students had their run at the school, which covered a lush 6ha-site. Parents and family members were at hand to support their children.
A culinary experience was organised for the four- to six-yearolds where five cooking and preparation stations were set up for them at the Culinary Art Room at the Secondary Block.
The children had a hands-on experience of making sandwiches, fruit satay, macaroni carbonara, spaghetti and their favourite – marshmallows with chocolate toppings.
They had to skewer the fruit satay themselves, and serve it with gravy or sauce.
Parents came out in full force to assist in the culinary event and to support their children.
The students had a whale of a time in their cute aprons.
The common adage of a healthy body, a healthy mind, is the guiding beacon for Sri Bestari Private School in organising outdoor activities for students and Bestarian community.
The annual Bestari Fun Ride, a bicycle ride around the school that incorporates road safety tips for students, is in the works.
It is mandatory for participating students to undergo a road safety programme carried out by Alliance Insurance under its CSR programme prior to the Fun Ride to learn about road safety.
Also in discussion is a comprehensive fire safety and evacuation programme prior to the school’s annual fire drill to be carried out in collaboration with the Fire and Rescue Department.
All these events are part and parcel of a student’s learning experience which leaves a lasting imprint in their lives.
