WHILE Low Wee Wern’s performances since returning from a 20month injury layoff have been nothing short of miraculous, Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) are well aware that she must tread with caution.

SRAM director of coaching Major (Rtd) S. Maniam said Wee Wern, who had struggled with a serious knee injury in recent seasons, must not be pushed too hard too soon.

“I am absolutely delighted with the way she is playing, she is just getting better and better with every tournament,” said Maniam.

“But having said that we have to tread carefully with Wee Wern, in all our excitement I don’t think we should push her to much too soon.

“Her health is of primary concern to me. We will continue to monitor and improve her physical abilities and capacity to match what is required at the top level.

“She needs to continue working on her strength and conditioning. But knowing Wee Wern, she is very determined and she will do everything right.”

Wee Wern, who will next compete at the Indonesia Asian Games, made her comeback at the National Championships last month and reached the final.

She then went on to win the Malaysian Open followed by the Tasmanian Open and on Sunday added the Australian Open title to her list of achievements.

Her world rankings have subsequently shot up from No 254 last month to No 70 currently.
