KUALA LUMPUR: Low-cost carrier AirAsia has launched direct services between Kuala Lumpur and Phu Quoc, Vietnam, with four weekly flights starting on November 2.

AirAsia Malaysia head of commercial Spencer Lee said the new services would strengthen the airline’s Asean connectivity, enabling people to visit more places in the region.

“We are delighted to be the first airline to launch direct services from Kuala Lumpur to one of Asean’s best-kept secrets, Phu Quoc.

“Our guests can connect seamlessly to Phu Quoc via Kuala Lumpur from 20 cities in 10 countries, which are China, India, Australia, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia,” he said yesterday.

He added that travellers from any country could also visit Phu Quoc visa-free for up to 30 days, making it more accessible.

Phu Quoc is the largest island in Vietnam and is home to a diverse landscape featuring lush forests, crystal clear beaches and towering mountains.

Lee said Phu Quoc marked AirAsia Malaysia’s 59th unique route and the fifth route into Vietnam after Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hanoi and Nha Trang from Malaysia.

“We hope to contribute to the social and economic development of Phu Quoc through the power of connectivity. We look forward to working with the local government to develop Phu Quoc into a world-class tourist destination.”
