Video of yacht’s interior goes viral
KUALA LUMPUR: A video supposedly depicting the interior of super yacht Equanimity, now in Port Klang, has gone viral on social media.
The one-minute and 40-second video, recorded by an unknown man speaking in a northern Malay accent, shows the yacht’s upper deck and stern.
An inflatable motorised boat, bearing the word “Equanimity”, is seen in the frame, lending credence that the footage was recorded when the vessel docked in Port Klang upon arrival from Indonesia.
The yacht, estimated to be worth RM1 billion, has been linked to fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low.
Also seen in the video is Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd inspecting the luxury vessel.
Efforts to gain more information on the authenticity of the video from Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun were unsuccessful at press time.
Reports had suggested that the 91.5m yacht, capable of carrying 26 guests, had gold leaf and marble trimmings, a spa and sauna, a 20m swimming pool, a cinema, elevator and a helipad.
Jeremy Joseph, the lawyer representing the Malaysian government in its claim for the yacht, had told reporters on Tuesday that the vessel had a wooden and marble interior.
Joseph had said 16 people from a special team tasked with inspecting the vessel wore shoe covers so that they did not damage the yacht’s interior.
The vessel arrived in Port Klang at 11am on Tuesday after a 20-hour journey from Batam, Indonesia.
The New Straits Times Press had reported that the Indonesian government handed over the vessel to Malaysia following a request from Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
