No change in dress code for MAS inflight crew

-

AIRLINE companies are free to decide on their stewards’ and stewardesses’ uniforms as long as they abide by rules outlined by the Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia and International Civil Aviation Organisation.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar said this meant that there would be no change of the dress code for Malaysia Airlines Bhd’s (MAS) inflight crew.

He said uniforms for the inflight crew must suit the requirements of their job.

“The decision by airline companies on the type of uniforms for their in-flight crew is based on suitability and their corporate image,”

He said that in the case of Malaysia Airlines, the uniform chosen was in line with the identity of hospitality that they practised.

“The uniforms for Malaysia Airlines’ stewardesses are decent,” he said in response to a question from Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (Pas-Pengkalan Chepa) during the question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

Marzuk had wanted to know the government’s action to ensure uniforms for in-flight crew members were syariah-compliant.

Kamaruddin said the government and other departments were working to ensure policies could be carried out in line with what was required in Islam.

“I respect everyone’s struggles, but give the government a chance to continue working towards a better administration.”
