Pas open to working with others, says Youth rep

KOTA BARU: Pas always keeps an open mind when it comes to cooperating with any party, including MCA, as long as the party’s principles are not compromised.

Pas Youth deputy chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the party had proven this before.

“Pas’ history shows that we do not reject any sort of cooperation, with the caveat that our principles are not compromised... they are set in stone in the party constitution.

“So, for as long as other quarters can accept Pas principles, which places Islam as its main agenda, then we have no problems,” he said.

It was reported that MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai had said the party was open to working with all opposition parties, including Pas, in the Balakong by-election in Selangor next month.

Fadhli said he was confident that if MCA wanted Pas’ help in Balakong, then the party would reciprocate by helping Pas in the Seri Setia by-election scheduled for the same day.

“Prior to this, during the Sibu by-election (in 2010), we had issued a statement to all Pas members there to vote for DAP (when the two parties were still working together).

“So it is not wrong if we ask our members to support MCA in Balakong.

“However, we will leave it all up to the Ulama Council to come to a decision on this matter,” he said.
