PRIME Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he will not interfere in matters pertaining to other political parties.

He said this yesterday in response to an allegation that he and Council of Eminent Persons chairman Tun Daim Zainuddin were conspiring to prevent PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from becoming prime minister.

“It’s a nice allegation, the person should prove it.

“I have never talked to anyone about this thing... I stay away. I have no business in other parties (affairs),” he said after attending a Special Cabinet Committee Meeting on Anti-Corruption here.

Kapar member of parliament Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid had said Anwar would face problems in taking over the premiership from Dr Mahathir if PKR vicepresident Rafizi Ramli was unsuccessful in unseating Datuk Seri Azmin Ali as deputy president in the party polls.

He was also quoted as saying that several parties that had wronged Anwar in the past were again conspiring to deny him the prime ministership, and that Daim had a role in it.

Before the 14th General Election, Pakatan Harapan leaders had agreed that Dr Mahathir would be prime minister if the coalition won.

It was also agreed that Anwar, who recently won the PKR presidency unopposed, would take over from Dr Mahathir.
